Cinemasports held its first event in Montreal, Quebec (Canada) on July 16, 2006. The event featured movies from the creative community of this culturally mixed city of French and English speakers. Since the social and economic fallout of the 1995 referendum, Quebec has been undergoing a slow renaissance, and it shows in its art. Cinemasports tapped into a vibrant creative community in Montreal spearheaded by the organizer of the Pony TV project.
