Cinemasports Moscow Breaks Records

May 20, 2006 Cinemasports Moscow

Cinemasports Moscow, held May 20, 2006, broke many attendance records for Cinemasports. Over 250 teams showed up for the kickoff meeting that morning. Well over 1000 participants created an energy that spilled into the streets of Moscow that day.

The overwhelming response was unexpected with the majority of teams signing up less than 2 days before the event. The 35MM theatre, with less than 800 seats, could not even fit all filmmakers for the evening screening. Almost everyone, however, shared the community spirit of the event and walked away with a positive creative experience.

The event included major press coverage and fanfare. Outside the screening venue, BMX bikers threw tricks on the Cinemasports half pipe while a DJ played hip hop beats in the background. Popular MTV Russia VJ, Tutta Larsen, helped judge and host the event.

National Russian Media coverage included television (TNT, MTV, Rossia, Cultura, RTV, Mritz, Rambler Vision), Radio (Maximum Bachinsky & Stillavin, Mayak), and Print (Esquire, Russia, Moscow Times). Outstanding movies were shown on national Russian television.

A week after the event, an afterparty ran two simultaneous projectors for 6 hours to show the remaining movies that did not screen on the night of the event.
